Yeah, I was listening to Amy Winehouse while trying to get started on this post. I figure I am well overdue. But, seeing as it officially the end of summer tomorrow for all intents and purposes (what with school starting and all), I thought I needed to give a little recap of the summer.
Of course, at the end of May I had grand plans for the kiddos and myself. Funny how most of them never materialized. Time seemed to chug right on by and leave me looking at the caboose and wondering what I had been doing for the past three months. So, I decided to just post some photos from the summer. Hopefully, I will be able to give more detail on some of them over the next week.
So, here goes....
Lily ended her final year of preschool with a rodeo. Mrs. Theresa is the best. She had set up a real corral in front of the school complete with hay bales and a place to tie the horses. They even had their lunch around the campfire and took their nap outside "under the stars." Those kids just have a blast with all of the fun stuff she plans for them. We will miss you, Mrs. Theresa!
Little Man wrapped his year of 3rd grade with awards for the highest average in EVERY subject in his class. He also had the most reading points (which he was very proud of) but his teacher forgot to mention it after she had called out all of the other stuff. We are so very proud of this little guy.
There was some of this also. The kids' favorite thing is an evening bicycle ride downtown and around the campus of the Arts School.
Lily ditched the training wheels.
Hayden took to riding more and had to have a bigger bike that he has already outgrown.
And how about that beauty? A fine specimen. Perfect shade of robin's egg blue. Even the name invokes a sense of environmentally friendly miles of granola fun - Trek Pure. Unfortunately, the position you see it in is pretty much the one it has been in all summer. Yes, that is my bike. Hey, I can't chance dirtying the tires on something called a "Pure" now can I?
And then, there was Las Vegas. Larue and I went in late June. I can pretty much sum that whole experience up by saying I'm glad I was able to check that off my list, but you won't have to worry about me going back any time soon. More on that later. That's a whole other post. I will admit I enjoyed seeing that area of the country though.
We got back from the Smokies a week ago. Somehow, Larue was able to con Hayden into going on another hike this year. Instead of taking me, however, he dragged Lily and his Daddy. More on that later, too.
There was also the stuff that I failed to capture with the camera. Lily started violin lessons and also lost her first tooth. (No, those two events were not related. Although it would be easy to believe being Lily and all.) Hayden turned nine and has grown at an astonishing rate. He simply skipped a whole clothing size. Larue and I just keep working and trying to hold things down around the house. And, I am hoping to go back to school next summer for three semesters. As if I didn't have anything else to do. Whatever. These are the days of our lives.
Oh, I knew there was something else. I am HOOKED on Hulu. (No, Mama, that is not a new name for weed.) I have a little stand in our bathroom and am able to put the iPad in there when I am getting ready in the morning and at night and watch full episodes of TV shows with only two short commercials. I have developed a crush on Jon Stewart and am loving Arrested Development and 30Rock. I never was able to see any of those shows before and it is so great to start from the beginning and watch them whenever I want. Anyway, I was not paid to say that but you really need to try the ol' Hulu.
Well, I guess I have put off doing more laundry and cleaning the kitchen long enough. Be on the lookout for more photos soon.
